The winner of this year's CES Innovation Award doesn't go to some great computer device that makes computers quicker or quieter, or to anything with a lowercase "i" before its name, but rather to a product that straps onto your chair, sends thumping vibrations through your seat, and rattles your rump and your brain as if you were on top of a giant loudspeaker. A bit much? Well, let's be realistic: How would you react if you pumped out a few rounds from a double-barreled shotgun?

The ButtKicker series, from Ohio-based Guitammer, is an unusual product designed to make gaming, music, and other entertainment more enjoyable, and real, by adding an extra sense to our experience: feeling. While most people perceive sound as only being discernable through our ears, sound can also be felt. If you've ever been to a concert and listened to thundering bass or the loud thump of the drums, you'd think the feeling is tantamount to someone lightly hitting your chest. That's when you feel the music, and that's precisely what Guitammer has created.

Rather than sending sound through the air, the ButtKicker straps onto and shakes your chair. A little motor under your seat receives audio instructions from a separate 100-watt amplifier, which is connected to a computer, stereo, or other source. When gaming, for instance, the motor kicks in after an explosion or when you fire a weapon and shakes you to make the experience a bit more lifelike.

The ButtKicker Gamer, one of several ButtKicker products, is what we've reviewed today. We strapped our rumps onto this gaming sensation station and had a ButtKickin' experience.
